About

Born and raised in the historically cosmopolitan city of Alexandria, Egypt, Ahmed Manawishi graduated with a bachelor’s degree from his city’s Academy of Fine Arts, with top honours.

During his studies, Manawishi was commissioned to produce a series of paintings depicting the historical battles of the Egyptian Navy, which continue to be exhibited in one of the main attractions of the capital: the citadel of Cairo.

Following his studies, Manawishi was awarded the State Award for Creativity in Theatre Scenography. This resulted in a two-year full scholarship at the Egyptian Academy of Art in Rome. During his time in Italy, Manawishi designed the scenography of several plays, had a solo exhibition of his paintings in the Academy and was the right hand of world renowned artist Maria Lai in the design of the museum in Castel Nuovo di Farfa.

His installation ‘Walking Through the Grinder’ was exhibited at the What’s Happening Here Gallery in Amsterdam in 2012, while Black Box Gallery in Brussels hosted a solo exhibition of his work in January 2023.

We welcome you to his newest exhibition, ANONYMOUS.
